Zone Offence

Middle Ball Screens

Ball screens in the middle of the floor can be very effective against zone defences because, like good ball movement and screening action, they can force defenders out of their area of coverage. In these video clips Butler University makes great use of the ball screen at the top.

4 Down Lob

This is fairly popular lob play that can be used against both man to man and zone defences.

Double Mid-Post

The Spanish Women's National Team ran this very simple set by entering the ball into the mid-post area. The mid-post is often a difficult area for zones to defend because it is often between two rows of a zone - whether it is a 1-2-2, 2-3 or a 1-3-1.

Wright St. Double Pin

This zone set from Wright State University has a lot of movement and can create an open 3 pt. shot. It can be effective against any type of zone.

1-3-1 Special

This is a popular zone quick hitter and is part of Michigan State's zone offence package.  The offence aligns in a 1-3-1 set.

Double Stack

This is a set play from Bob Huggins, presently the Head Coach at University of West Virginia.
